Acupuncture, PCOS, fertility and hot flushes

Three Australian based experts describe the value of acupuncture in treating modern day gynaecological conditions. The magnitude of research and range of clinical application demonstrates the acceptance of acupuncture in today’s society.

A specialist in the field of infertility and Chinese Medicine for over 30 years, Jane Lyttleton has authored and co-authored many acclaimed reference textbooks and is clinical director of the Australia wide ‘IVF and Acupuncture Support Clinic’. Jane explains how acupuncture helps women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Dr Caroline Smith, Associate Professor in Complementary Medicine at the University of Western Sydney, is heading a study of more than 1,000 women across 12 IVF centres, looking at the potential for acupuncture to increase the rate of live births for women with PCOS. GP Dr Caroline Ee from Melbourne is involved in a study across a number of research centres (Melbourne, RMIT, Monash and Southern Cross Universities, Jean Hailes for Women’s Health) assessing the effect of acupuncture on hot flushes associated with menopause.
